The heritage sites within my local area, like Aberdoon House, have been a haven from the business of life. I find myself drawn to these places as the stillness evokes reflection and inspiration. I love imagining the stories the sites hold – of people’s comings and goings, their passions and heartaches, their joys and tragedies and I love that my story can be added to these. The photograph I have included captured a moment of this story. Just envision one of the first few days of spring after a cold winter, siblings laughing and teasing, venturing out from their home which had become a little like a jail sentence during winter. Imagine the sense of freedom as your feet run on the soft grass, the laughter in the air and the feel of the sun on your face. Imagine the faces of the kids when they are told by their mother that they can have ice-cream and imagine their delight at the taste of what the next few months will bring. I was lucky enough to capture such a moment and I love how heritage sites like Aberdoon House provide opportunities for such moments to exist.
