An over-seas friend from Denmark once asked me when he first came to Australia "What is the typical Aussie way of living?" Strangely enough, it was hard to answer his question even though I've lived here on the Northern Beaches my whole life. So I just asked him to come down to our local beach with me and some of my friends at 7a.m in the morning to spend the day there. I left for home about midday because of school homework, but most of my mates (including my new friend from Denmark) were still down at the beach. The sun was going down after I'd finished, so I decided to go back down to the beach for a quick surf before it got dark. It was now around 7p.m, walking down the dunes looking over a brilliant sunset. There were a couple local surfers out the back of the sets, but what grabbed my attention the most was a one person by themselves closer to the shore line. Getting closer to the shore line, it became quite clear that it was my new mate from Denmark still down at the beach after 12 hours! I gave him a wave to call him over. Walking up the sand the first thing he said to me was "I love Australia."
