Living near the centre of Eastwood is wonderful. For the last 15 years I have regularly wandered the leafy streets to the main shopping area. Past the fire station and many restaurants, watching children playing in the fountain, listening to buskers singing and playing and walking under the wisteria canopy. Just the other evening I wandered around to a local restaurant with my husband and youngest son to enjoy a lovely meal and fabulous service at one of the local restaurants.
I love October in Eastwood because of the Granny Smith festival. Each year I set off to explore the attractions of the fair. Some years my children have been participants in the parade and performers, other years we watch. We have enjoyed rides, farmyard animals, fireworks and food.
The Granny Smith festival recognises and observes the heritage of our local area as well as celebrating the changes and the diversity that is richly woven into our community. Apples have come to symbolise this.
